Country guide
Asia’s education hub: globally ranked universities in a safe, English-speaking city.
The guide
Singapore combines highly ranked universities, English-language teaching and one of the safest, best-connected cities in the world. Its universities work closely with industry in finance, technology, engineering and the life sciences, and its location makes it a natural gateway to the wider Asia-Pacific region.
Student life in Singapore blends modern campuses with a multicultural city where Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western cultures meet. Efficient public transport, affordable hawker-centre food and easy travel across Southeast Asia help students settle in, although accommodation is usually the largest part of the budget.
International students need a Student’s Pass issued by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA). After your university registers you, you apply online through ICA’s Student’s Pass system (SOLAR). There is no automatic post-study work visa: graduates who want to work in Singapore generally need an employer-sponsored work pass from the Ministry of Manpower, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass. Students who accept a government Tuition Grant also agree to work for a Singapore-registered entity for a set period after graduating.
